Thredbo

Thredbo is a pretty village snuggled into the foothills of Australia's highest mountains. It is just a slice of the 690,000 hectares that make up the beautiful Kosciuszko National Park..

There are places to stay, places to play and places to pray, all tucked up in the 1000 hectares that make up the cosy resort. Slope-side is activity central all year round, and the other side of the mountain is full of facilities, modern services and has a great village atmosphere.

A highlight of Thredbo is that it is full of seasons, each with its own amazing distinct features. The chilly winter winds bring snowfalls that blanket the mountain and soon the slopes are buzzing with snow lovers. When spring arrives, the snow thaws to reveal lush green trails ready for hikers and bikers and the sleepy flora and fauna slowly start to awaken. By the height of summer, backpacks and walking boots are the norm with Thredbo and the Main Range bustling with explorers and bursting with colour. Perisher Blue, Smiggin Holes and Guthega

With Seven mountain peaks, 50 lifts, 1,245 ha of skiable terrain, Perisher Blue is Australia's pre-eminent mountain resort, providing international class facilities, based on ecologically sustainable development principles.

Perisher Valley, Guthega, Bluecow and Smiggin Holes form the Perisher Blue Ski Resort. The Perisher Village is located 1,720m above sea level with the resort's highest ski lifted point at 2034m.

General amenities at Perisher in winter include accommodation, snowboard and ski hire, ski schools, ski patrols, snowmaking, lockers and ski storage. Implementation of the award winning Ski Slope Master Plan will ensure the efficient integration of the original four separate resorts through the modernisation of lifting, an extensive snowmaking system to take skiers from one corner of the resort to the other, under all conditions; and strategically placed on-mountain restaurant facilities to enhance and improve visitor amenity and experience.

Alpine Way Jindabyne to Thredbo

The Alpine Way runs from Jindabyne to Thredbo through beautiful rural valleys drained by the Wollondibby Creek and the Thredbo River. Jindabyne and Surrounds

Jindabyne township, Tyrolean Village, East Jindabyne, Kalkite, High Country Estate, Lakewood and Cobbin Estate are some of the differing village areas that are commonly referred to as Jindabyne.

The original town of Jindabyne and its inhabitants were relocated in the 1960's when the Snowy River was dammed as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, Not many buildings were moved and the SMA was the first big developer; a number of Snowy houses were built for employees.  The remains of the old town lie submerged under Lake Jindabyne and can occasionally be glimpsed when lake levels are low. For great views over the lake at any time head for the Waste Point Lookout on the Kosciuszko Road.

Modern Jindabyne is a year round holiday resort and is a very cosmopolitan place with its mix of new residents and pioneering families.

The surrounding rural areas are home to a number of residents who reside on rural residential estates. The new rural LEP outlines the differing sub-division sizes according to the various localities in the shire.

In winter Jindabyne is a base for skiers bound for the major resorts in Kosciuszko National Park and for the rest of the year it's a great place from which to go bushwalking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting and canoeing, horse riding and kayaking. The lake provides superb opportunities for trout fishing and water sports.
